This precious experience gave me an indication about what should I do to improve in the future: my English ability and academic capability. I strongly recommend that students should take part in this kind of competitions. Not matter you are in the debate club or not, through this kind of fierce debates we will not only get new experiences but our abilities will be enhanced as well. Also, Gary is an extremely excellent coach with strong leadership skills. He boosted our confidence before the competition and encouraged us not to lose the passion of debating and participating.

I learnt quite a lot. First of all, debating skills, I gained lots of advices from the judges in Hangzhou tournament, such as using language which is not extreme but making our own team’s arguments more solid and specific. Secondly, I learnt how to work as a team. Before the competition, my partners and I did plenty of researches and prepared for a long time. I really enjoyed the process of preparing and the cooperation. Debating is an interesting and thought-provoking activity, especially when you attending competitions. It’s such a challenge for your ability to brainstorm and your ability to work as a team, which can improve your overall capabilities. Plus, you can learn a lot from other teams and obtain lots of experience which you cannot get from books.

After this tournament, my vocabulary and speaking has been improved a lot. At the sametime, I realized that we need some improvements on our strategy, the level of English and the speed of thinking. Firstly, it is better to win a round and lose a round in the morning, then you will not meet the strong opponents in the afternoon. And we found that sometimes, the answer of the question from the opponents has already came up in our mind in Chinese, but we need time to translate it into English. Then the judge might think that we are unable to answer the question and gave us a low score. In this case, we still need to improve our English.
